Harmony Choir

Harmony is a friendly community choir meeting every Thursday in East Leeds for 10 years, with currently about 40 singers.

We break down barriers of age, sexuality, language, ability, ethnicity, religion and nationality – yes, all that! – through the joy of singing. We welcome people with any or no singing experience, and particularly refugees and asylum seekers (we help with bus fares).

We perform regularly at community events, conveying our message of unity through our songs and our diversity. Members say that singing and performing with Harmony is uplifting, offers friendship, and raises confidence.

“I experienced trauma back in my home country and often this comes into my mind. When I sing, I am finally able to relax”. (A member seeking asylum)

“You put on a fantastic show and really engaged the audience, including some young people who are not easily impressed! I really loved the energy and passion you put into your work!” (A Headteacher)

We are part of Arts Together because we would love to network, learn from, and potentially collaborate with other groups.

I always aim to make singing fun – and to get the very best out of singers, whatever their starting point. I love the diversity of Harmony – where else would you make friends with people from across the globe, from Azerbaijan to Zimbabwe? That’s what singing with us can do!
