Leeds Playhouse

At Leeds Playhouse the range of our work is massive; whether you’re a beginner, an aspirational artist or a professional, we provide opportunities. Whether you’re 5 or 95, there are ways that you can get involved with us, and whether you want to sit and watch a great piece of theatre or take part in the action, we can help.

This is what we are about, what makes us proud to be Leeds Playhouse – a key part of the arts in Leeds, Leeds City Region, West Yorkshire, and in touch with the rest of the world.

“I think it is very good that you brought the playhouse into the community, which is very beneficial for all and gives access where some would not get it or be able to make it to the theatre”.  Around The World In 80 Days Community Tour 2019

“I learnt that everyone is the same on the inside and that it doesn’t matter if your appearance or language is different.”  Theatre of Sanctuary Workshop – yr 6 pupil

“I really enjoyed getting to know people who work and attend Playhouse Youth as everyone is very lovely and warm. I want to carry on as it’s such a lovely community”. Playhouse Youth Member

Arts Together is an opportunity to reach people we don’t know yet. Leeds Playhouse is accessible to all Leeds communities and we can’t wait to welcome new and returning audiences and participants.

People you may meet

  • Ruth Hannant, Head of Creative Engagement

I have been with the Playhouse for 20 years and am always ready to have a conversation with people and to find the best way for them to take part in the life of the theatre. I look after our Theatre of Sanctuary work and oversee our Communities strand of work as well as supporting all of my colleagues in the theatre.

  • Maggie de Ruyck, Older People’s Programme Manager

One of my main jobs is looking after Heydays, our long standing, weekly creative arts programme for people over the age of 55. You'll find me every Wednesday in our front of house areas, talking and usually laughing with the 200 older people who join us every week for craft making, script reading and dancing to name just three of the activities on offer.

  • Lynn Hudson

I am a Team Leader in the Box Office and have worked at the Playhouse for 32 years. I oversee the training and care of Box Office staff and deal with the day to day running of the Box Office.
