5 Ways

5 WAYS is a place for people in recovery and those who are coming to the end of their treatment for alcohol or drug issues.  It provides a safe and comfortable environment for people to gain support, advice and guidance.

It is an informal and welcoming space where individuals can choose their own courses and activities and plan their own recovery journeys based on what they prefer and not someone else’s idea of what they need.

5 WAYS is open to anyone in the city of Leeds who consider themselves to be in recovery from a substance/alcohol use problem.

“5 WAYS has been a major part of my recovery. Just being able to come to 5 WAYS and have a cup of tea and not be isolated is wonderful.

Through 5 WAYS I have been to an Open Day at Leeds University, gone on barge trips and even appeared on stage in a production of Macbeth.”

We are part of Arts Together because it is a fabulous opportunity to be a part of a partnership promoting culture and arts across the wonderful city of Leeds.

People you may meet

  • Carla Carr

I’m a Sustained Recovery Worker at 5 WAYS. I work with people who are now abstinent from alcohol and drugs to help them rebuild their lives and re-engage with the community. My first experience with the arts was as a munchkin in a school production of the Wizard of Oz.

  • Jo Byrden

I manage 5 WAYS and the Sustained Recovery side of Forward Leeds the city’s alcohol and drug service. The first album I bought was Prince Charming by Adam and the Ants. I looked forward to every Friday night at the school disco where I’d dance to Prince Charming with a white stripe painted across my face. Adam Ant was also my first crush!

  • Anne-Marie Gibson

I’m a receptionist so you might see me greeting you a cheery hello at 5 WAYS. One of my earliest memories of music is when my older sister would come home from school and play her records, I will never forget the room filling up with the sound of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, it blew me away.
