Between the Lines
We are Sarah Autumn and Denetta Copeland. A couple of Leeds-based and born lasses who have a shared belief in the power of community, expression, storytelling, and resistance. We joined forces on a ‘Love Poetry Hate Racism’ event in 2020 and have collaborated ever since.
We’re Artists and Activists at our core. We believe in the power of Community Media and Creativity to explore challenging issues. Whether you attend a creative workshop, produce your own podcast, or get involved in one of our community events, we facilitate connections, conversations, and storytelling.
We use art and media to explore and respond to the issues of the world. We have developed a range of creative workshops, including climate poetry for children, anti-racism for schools, and ‘Express Yourself for Mental Health’ by D3. We’re currently facilitating an informal poetry discussion group at Left Bank in Leeds.
We produced a monthly Spoken Word podcast LOUDSPEAKER. You can listen to episodes from season one online.
We also work with communities to facilitate the development of their own podcasts and or document existing projects. We’re currently working with Touchstone Leeds on a media project for Lincoln Green.
As a team, we’ve produced and hosted a range of live events, including a series of Spoken Word events, radio broadcasts with live studio audiences for LOUDSPEAKER, supporting the Hip Hop History Society Community Day, Love Music Hate Racism and all-female Hip Hop gigs.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Sarah and D3. Their passion for community voice really comes through. They’re a great example of a community organisation that balances a professional approach without losing the authenticity of their creativity.”
Esther Amis-Hughes, Leeds City Museum
We are part of Arts Together because we believe in the power of arts giving voice to underrepresented communities and bringing people together.

I am a Spoken Word artist who has facilitated writing workshops for 20 years. I believe that having a voice and having that voice heard is important. It allows our communities to work together to gain knowledge and find ways to express their opinion. Subscribe to my YouTube page at D3UK - YouTube!
I'm a creative activist and community organiser. I work on issues from climate change and anti-racism to feminism and the refugee crisis. I'm a passionate advocate for using art and media to tackle important issues. Aside from the work I do with Denetta as co-founder of BTL, I facilitate a radical reading group, teach a refugee women's English Class and am currently completing an artist residency UNION23.
