Music House

Music House is a registered charity which aims to bring equal access to music and singing for everyone regardless of personal circumstances. As well as offering competitively prices 1:1 and small group lessons; our key aims are to bring meaningful music and singing projects to young people

We work to remove barriers to access for local young people through a range of participatory arts activities to widen and improve opportunities, on the doorstep. Music has the power to transform young lives through participation in the creative process. We know because the journeys of the people we work with show us.

Music should be enjoyed by everyone and we strongly believe it is fundamental to help with confidence, mental health issues.

We are based in a welcoming in the heart of Little London – one of the most deprived wards nationally. Working in the community to support young and old people is at the heart of what we do. Here is a summary of some of the projects we are involved with:

  • Reggae Roots – the country’s first and only youth reggae choir, set up in partnership with Geraldine Connor Foundation. In 2022 they performed as part of the Coronation
  • Jam Around the Table – a Music House initiative that enables local children and young people, to take part in an immersive music programme and informal conversations over food, learning new music skills
  • We will be establishing two new choirs in the new year – Chinese Choir in partnership with the Chinese School that meets regularly at Music House and a Community Gospel Choir, led by Leroy Johnson
  • One-to-one and group music tuition with a range of instruments, choirs and genres
  • We have a number of differnt choirs and music groups that use our rooms which we offer at very reasonable rates.
  • In 2024, grant funding is going to play an important role in helping us to bring music and singing to  the local region so that nobody is left behind.

“Music House offers incredible opportunities and helps people’s talent shine to the max. I loved knowing my daughter could be part of the group of people who share the way she loves to learn, where she would’t feel marginalised or excluded and have a global musical style rather than the limited classical way of teaching that only appeals to some people. A great project to support.” – Ms N Tharraleos, November 2023

We are part of Arts Together because I think its really important to network with likeminded organisations, to find out what is going on in the landscape of Leeds and to raise awareness of our organisation and what we do.
