ArtForms

ArtForms is the music and arts service for Leeds City Council, working with children, young people, and families.  We offer music activity for learners of all ages and ability, in and outside of school, and we run Music Centres which offer music learning in venues across the city.  We are the lead partner for the Leeds Music Education Partnership – the music education hub for Leeds.

We also provide high quality arts opportunities, including teacher training and artist led projects delivered in school.  And we support the Leeds Cultural Education Partnership whose aim is to ensure every child in Leeds has access to arts and cultural education.

“LYJRO stands for Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra, yet it is so much more than that. Being a member of LYJRO has been, and will continue to be, a great experience, where we get to work as a family to create live, energetic and heartfelt music…” (a young trumpet player)

We are part of Arts Together because we are committed to partnership working. We want to remove barriers so that all children, young people and their families have access to inspiring, meaningful and relevant arts and cultural experiences.

As a child I was taken to the pantomime, it was a magical experience and life changing. As Head of Arts Development I work with schools, artists and arts organisations to ensure children and young people have the opportunity to participate in arts and culture in and outside of school.

I was offered the chance to play an instrument at school – I took home an instrument I had never heard of before. Music became a huge part of my life. As a musician, I work in a range of genres. I have taught and encouraged others to find their own musical fulfilment, because music changes the lives of individuals, schools and communities for the better.
