Womens Health Matters (Rainbow Hearts Group)
At Women’s Health Matters, we regularly run creative sessions as part of our group work, including
things such as jewellery making, print making, and drawing. In 2022, we held an exhibition at The Tetley called ‘See Me, Hear Me’ which involved women using their creativity to celebrate their diversity and unique journeys through creative writing and banner making. This was created in collaboration with the women we work with across all of our projects, with support from the Let’s Create Jubilee Fund.
We have also used creativity as part of our campaigning work including running sessions on women’s safety and supporting refugee rights in our Rainbow Hearts group.
Rainbow Hearts is a friendly and informal group for women of all ages seeking asylum here in Leeds. We run two groups a week during term time for women to make friends, support each other and
learn new skills. We provide sessions around topics such as self-care, wellbeing and health. We’ve
done all sorts of creative activities together… arts and crafts, photography, singing, movement,
drama, storytelling and much more!
We are part of Arts Together because we believe in the power of the arts to bring people together and to build strong communities.

I am the project lead for Rainbow Hearts and it’s the best part of my job! Every week is something new, from singing to movement to using nature to create art. All of the women bring something different to the group and everyone is made to feel welcome. Come along and join us for our sessions!

I am a project worker for Rainbow Hearts. I lived the experience of being an asylum seeker and deeply grateful to have my job to support the women and adding moments of fun and enjoyment to their lives through the group. I also believe in the power of art in wellbeing.
