Leeds Irish Health and Homes

Leeds Irish Health and Homes offers individual support and creative group work for Irish people or people of Irish Heritage. Our vision is to provide health and well-being services that change people’s lives through care, culture and community. Our three core values inspire us to celebrate the positive contribution Irish people make to Leeds. We offer Irish themed events and activities such as Painting for Pleasure, Creative Writing, arts and crafts and music. This provides opportunities to make new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment. As part of our cultural program we encourage participation and engagement with a wider diverse community.

“It wasn’t always easy accessing the arts growing up; now I have a great time trying out new things – arts and crafts, singing, dancing, writing poetry – my grandchildren think I’m a bit “nutty”. I especially like dressing up and getting involved in the St Patrick’s Day float – last year I was a suffragette! I might be a mermaid next”.

We are part of Arts Together because it offers us the opportunity to share our culture, and engage more fully with other creative community organisations.

I promote creativity and the arts amongst the people we work with. I believe the arts enhances all aspects of life; greater well-being, community involvement, self-empowerment, and fun. As a youngster my uncle brought home a copy of ‘The Laughing Policeman’. I’ve been laughing ever since.

Hi. I am the Irish Community Support Worker (Arts and Wellbeing) for LIHH. For as long as I remember I have been involved with the arts through music, theatre, and dance. This led to my interest in introducing Irish culture to people through Irish themed activity groups.
