Cultural Collections and Galleries, at the University of Leeds Libraries

Cultural Collections and Galleries, at the University of Leeds Libraries, is the home of the University’s world-class collections of old stuff and art. Explore hundreds of thousands of rare books, manuscripts, archives, textiles, coins, artworks, public art, and objects. Visit our Galleries on campus, book a visit in the Research Centre, or explore online. Free and open to all.

Our ‘Welcoming Migrants’ programme works collaboratively with local communities with experience of migration. It invites people to see our collections and exhibitions. Through conversation and creative activities, we share stories, develop their skills, and connect with others. We host visits and workshops for groups from charities and support organisations across Leeds. We are currently developing a regular on- campus co-production group in partnership with Leeds Asylum Seeker Support Network (LASSN). Previous student projects have invited LASSN’s Tea and Talk Group to share recipes inspired by our Cookery Collection. These were drawn together into a cookbook which was exhibited and
sold, with all proceeds going to LASSN.

“It’s so lovely to be involved in these activities, it has taken my mind off all my worries.”
Welcoming Migrants participant.

“We have formed a fantastic partnership which has empowered so many asylum seekers and
refugees with the opportunity to access routes into education, art, culture and enjoy the gallery
collections and campus. The projects, workshops and tours have brought together individuals
through sharing food, lived experiences and a love for art.”- LASSN Staff

We are part of Arts Together because we want to work collaboratively with
communities across Leeds with a focus on social purpose.
