Based in Leeds City Centre, Opera North is England’s national opera company in the North and one of Europe’s leading arts organisations. The Company is committed to producing work of the highest quality that excites, challenges and entertains. Through its Learning & Engagement department, Opera North seeks to connect with communities and inspire each generation through opera and the artistic resources of the company. With a full-time orchestra and chorus, plus bespoke costume and technical departments, we offer a diverse range of extraordinary artistic experiences.
As well as administrating the Arts Together Network, Opera North runs the Encore scheme, which enables us to build relationships with organisations working with people who may have barriers to attending our performances. “We’ve seen improved mental health from experiencing live musical performance, as well as having ‘things to do’ on an evening. Most of our clients live in very poor accommodation and struggle to occupy their time. This forced inactivity can have particularly negative effects on individual’s mental health. Visits to the opera and Howard Assembly Room has changed this.”
We started Arts Together because we know that wonderful things can happen when arts organisations and community groups come together to share their ideas and experiences!
