New Roots

New Roots is a collaborative project between Refugee Council, RETAS and Path Yorkshire helping refugees in Leeds. ‘Connect’ is the social integration part of the project and helps people to feel more at home in Leeds. We run groups, workshops and events and give information about lots of other exciting things happening in the city. Meet new people, practice your English and feel more confident in yourself.
When asked about her experience at an sculpture-inspired arts workshop, one client said it ‘brought back my imagination when I thought it had gone’.
We are part of Arts Together because we are always looking for new and exciting ways to engage our clients in the arts. We recognise the important role that the arts can play in communication, freedom and creativity and how these contribute to feeling at home in a place.

I’m the Social Integration Coordinator for the New Roots project, I’m involved in planning and delivering groups, activities, workshops and events to help people learn, meet others and feel at home in Leeds! I can also help people to find groups in their local area. I like to see people making friends, taking part in new activities and just having fun!

I’m the Social Integration Coordinator for the New Roots project, involved in planning and delivering groups, activities and events to help people learn, meet others and have fun. I also help people to find groups to join in their local area too. I like to see people making new connections and trying new things. One of my earliest musical memories is playing a recorder duet in a concert whilst at primary school and knocking the stand off the stage mid-performance!
