Opera North: From Couch to Chorus
About the event
A beginner’s guide to singing opera.
Ever wanted to learn how to sing in an opera chorus? Now’s your chance! We’re thrilled to announce From Couch to Chorus, a four-week series of Zoom workshops this July and August where you’ll be learning all the best singing tips and tricks from professional music leaders and singers from the Chorus of Opera North.
You don’t need to have prior singing experience or be able to read music – all we’re asking is for is your enthusiasm. Whether you want to learn the basics of singing opera or experience what it’s like to be part of a chorus, this is the perfect opportunity to learn from the comfort of your own home!
The workshops are pay as you feel, so you can decide when and how much you’d like to donate – whether you’d like to donate when you sign up, after a session or at the end of the project when you’re chorus ready.
How does it work?
Join us once a week from 20 July – 12 August with a one hour Zoom session where you’ll be learning excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, Verdi’s Nabucco and Smetana’s The Bartered Bride.
Each workshop is split by voice type – Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass – if you’re not sure which you are, email us and we’ll be happy to help. Don’t worry if you can’t make a session, we’ll be sending out helpful resources and the Zoom recording after each workshop.
Soprano 10am – 11am Mondays: 20 July, 27 July, 3 August, 10 August
Alto 11.30am – 12.30pm Mondays: 20 July, 27 July, 3 August, 10 August
