About the event
Kasper Rietkerk is an award-winning Dutch saxophonist living in London and releasing his debut album as a bandleader. His European band features a real Loiner playing with them too – drummer Jonah Evans.
Kasper Rietkerk has worked with John Carrol Kirby, Eddie Chacon and Jean Toussaint among others. he is a member of the Emma Rawicz Jazz Orchestra and is a vibrant force on the bustling Lonfon Jazz scene His work is rooted in a jazz tradition, but also influenced by rock, hiphop and pop music.
His new album ‘The Island’ features his band KRSIX, along with a string quartet. The music is about what is happening politically in Europe as he identifies himself as very much as a socially concerned European citizen. The album is based in a jazz tradition with a lot of influences from other styles such as pop and rock music. The sound may remind you a bit of Brian Blades Fellowship albums.
