About the event
Experience the Royal Armouries Museum as you’ve never experienced it before.
This exhibition and self-guided trail uncovers the gendered and queer histories concealed within the museum’s collection, offering up fresh perspectives on dozens of historical artefacts.
Walk through and immerse yourself in this highly innovative display that challenges conventional narratives and reclaims the museum as an LGBTQ+ space.
Led by Dr Kit Heyam – a Leeds-based heritage practitioner, writer and academic who specialises in trans rights – this fascinating exhibition was designed and produced by researchers and volunteers from the local LGBTQ+ community. It showcases the diverse stories hiding in plain sight and reclaims the pasts of LGBTQ+ people, whose history is often denied or erased.
